    In today’s working world, managing any organization requires knowledge of the rules and regulations of human resource management. Ideal for anyone with management responsibilities as well as for those new to the HR field, this introductory course will cover the basics of hiring, paying, training and evaluating employees. Participants will gain a broad overview of human resource management. 

    Topics will include the following: 

    • Employment law in the workplace 
    • Effective recruiting and selection techniques 
    • Basics of compensation 
    • Employee orientation and training 
    • Ensuring quality performance

    Who should attend: 

    • Managers, supervisors, office administrators, small business owners, private practitioners and those responsible for or who oversee hiring, training and evaluating employees 
    • Entry-level HR staff members or those seeking to enter the field of human resource management

    Instructor
    Kathleen M. Fenninger, SPHR, GPHR
    , has more than 25 years of experience in human resources both as a generalist and an employment specialist, primarily in the energy and financial services industries in Houston and New York City. She has served as president of the Houston Human Resource Management Association and was awarded the Distinguished Professional in Human Resources award in 1998. Ms. Fenninger has been certification director for Area IV Board of Directors of the Society for Human Resource Management and was co-chair in 2001-2002 as well as founding board member of the newly chartered regional chapter of the Employment Management Association in Houston. She has been an instructor for the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies since 1996. Ms. Fenninger holds an MBA in organizational behavior and marketing, an MS in education and a BA in English from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where she was an instructor for several years.

    Refunds and Cancellations
    No refunds will be issued on or after the date the program begins. If enrollment is canceled in writing two weeks before the program begins, a full refund will be issued less the cost of any course materials the participant has received. When enrollments are canceled in writing less than two weeks before the program begins, a refund will be issued only if a replacement can be found for you and a 20 percent processing fee and the cost of any materials the participant has received will be deducted from the refund.

    Certificate of Enrollment
    All participants will receive a certificate verifying enrollment.

    Certificate of Achievement
    Participants in the "Essentials of HR Management Certificate Program" who score a 70 percent or better on all online module reviews and who score a minimum of 70 percent on the online final examination will receive a certificate of achievement with commensurate CEUs and recertification credits.
