Designed for those familiar with the basics of Adobe® Photoshop software, this course will provide hands-on experience in advanced editing of images for use in several applications. After a review of basic tools, participants will learn a range of powerful techniques to quickly create complex effects and will use additional features to help express their creativity and enhance images.

Prerequisite: An introductory Photoshop course or equivalent experience

Topics will include the following:

  • Making, saving and transforming selection “ants.” Resolution and transforming
    image selection.
  • Brush tools and palettes. Layers, linking and color labeling. Color correction.
  • Advanced layers: Alignment, clipping, masks, layer effects and blend modes
  • Adjustment layers: Levels, hue, saturation and posterizing
  • Repair tools: Clone stamp tool, healing brush and patch tool
  • Selection/drawing tools: Pen tool, vector shape tools and clipping paths
  • History brushes with filters: Custom-shaped brushes, gradients, type tool with warp feature and actions

Instructor: Sura Khudairi, owner and creative director of Sura Design, has eight years of experience in graphic and Web design and is studying for a masters in graphic design at the University of Houston. She also has experience in brand identity, packaging, print collateral, advertising and multimedia. Ms. Khudairi holds a BFA in graphic design from The Art Institute of Houston.

Participants will work in a computer lab at individual workstations using the Windows® operating system.
