Learn how to make your website handicapped accessible.

Even the most stunning and comprehensive websites are useless if people with disabilities cannot access the information they contain. A website is considered accessible when any user, regardless of disability, is able to access and effectively use it, and the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is actively developing accessibility guidelines and protocols for Web developers. In this course geared for those who design, develop, manage, or evaluate websites, participants will learn about the laws concerning Web accessibility, the benefits of accessible Web design, and the processes for making websites accessible. Participants will be given some hands-on exercises during class. A basic understanding of HTML is recommended.

Topics will include the following:

  • Assistive technology devices
  • Experiencing accessibility barriers
  • Federal and state accessibility laws
  • Standards and guidelines
  • Evaluating accessibility
  • HTML accessibility basics
  • Web accessibility initiative
