Only a few years old, the burgeoning technology of podcasting was made popular by the music and entertainment industry and has been quickly adopted by broadcast and print media, educational institutions, corporations, religious organizations and other groups looking for an efficient and inexpensive way to broadcast their message. Defined as a multimedia file distributed over the Internet that allows for playback on personal computers and portable media devices, a podcast is distinguished from other digital formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically. In this hands-on course, instructor Jeff Frey will guide participants step by step through the process of planning, producing, publishing and promoting a podcast.

Prerequisite: Basic computer navigation and operations skills

  • Promoting podcasts

Instructor: Jeffrey D. Frey is Web services manager for enterprise applications in the information technology department at Rice University. He has more than 10 years of experience in developing and managing Web-based business and educational solutions and applications, including analysis, enterprise architecture design, software development and project management. Mr. Frey holds a BA in computer science from Kent State University, where he is currently completing an MS in computer science.

Participants will work in a computer lab at individual workstations using the Windows® operating system.
