‘Clay in Malibu’ by Kathryn E. KlauberPrismacolor pencils are widely appreciated by professional artists for their high quality pigments and adaptability to a myriad of styles and techniques. In this workshop, participants will learn the Prismacolor techniques of shading, hatching, scumbling, incision drawing and burnishing as well as how to apply the medium to reflect a personal style – from subtle to vibrant, with exacting detail to a broader stroke. Artist Kathryn Klauber will concentrate on landscapes, still lifes and portraits. One class will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, to examine color application by the masters. Participants will learn how to judge paper structure and quality to help create works of lasting durability and will create a final project using a subject of their choosing.

Note: The course fee covers the cost of initial supplies. Additional supplies, to be purchased by each participant, will be discussed in class.

Instructor: Portrait artist and teacher Kathryn E. Klauber has received academic recognition for her studio art and for teaching studio art and art history. Her work has been widely exhibited and her narrative portraits are contained in public and private collections throughout the United States. She has presented lectures in art history at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and has lectured in art and museum-related themes in Rice’s Advanced Placement Summer Institute and other area venues. Ms. Klauber holds an MEd in art education with a specialization in the art museum from the University of Houston.
