Participants will work collaboratively to review, create, and practice class activities that foster language acquisition and an appreciation of cultures different from our own.
This workshop will focus on strategies to develop communicative ability in the interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes within a culturally rich context. This course is geared toward high school students in Levels I through III. Elements of the current AP Spanish Language and Culture exam will be used to demonstrate the knowledge and ability levels expected by the AP curriculum framework, and interactive exchange will suggest ideas to help attain that level of competence. Discussion topics will include the use of themes as a basis for language exploration, Curriculum Design, and the use of authentic materials. Participants are invited to share a successful class activity that promotes the development of communicative ability. All activities by the consultant will be modeled and practiced in Spanish, but participants are free to use either English or Spanish.
