The roles and responsibilities of Human Resource (HR) professionals are growing dramatically in corporate, government, educational and other institutions. To keep pace in this changing field, professional training is essential. Those practicing in the field must be informed about the latest in management practices, recruiting, training, employee relations, workplace regulations and other developments.

In 36 hours of classroom studies based on the "SHRM Learning System®," both new and experienced professionals will have the opportunity to learn what they need to know in order to obtain the designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR®) from the national Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI®). The curriculum, designed by subject matter experts, covers the 2007 HRCI Body of Knowledge and includes application exercises that develop specific competencies and decision-making skills. Please note that you must meet certain eligibility requirements and register by deadline to take the national examinations. Visit www.hrci.org.

Modules include the following:

  • Strategic management
  • Workforce planning and employment
  • Risk management
  • Human resource development
  • Total rewards
  • Employee and labor relations

Who should attend
HR practitioners and professionals who:

  • Have at least two years exempt-level work experience.
  • Desire to have a better understanding of HR.
  • Wish to prepare for certification or recertification as a PHR through HRCI.
  • Seek to earn professional continuing education units (CEUs) required for maintaining certification status.

Study materials: Fee includes cost of the most recent printed edition of and online access to the "SHRM Learning System." Participants must have Web access. Cost of study materials is non-refundable once the materials are distributed.

Please note that names and contact information for all enrollees will be submitted to the Holmes Corporation in order for GSCS to purchase the "SHRM Learning System" and other required course materials.

Refunds and cancellations: No refunds will be issued on or after the date the program begins. If enrollment is canceled in writing two weeks before the program begins, a full refund will be issued less the cost of any course materials the participant has received. When enrollments are canceled in writing less than two weeks before the program begins, a refund will be issued only if a replacement can be found for you and a 20 percent processing fee and the cost of any materials the participant has received will be deducted from the refund.

Certificate of enrollment: All participants will receive a certificate verifying enrollment.

Certificate of achievement: Participants in Professional HR Development who complete the online post-test for each module, score a minimum of 70 percent on the online final examination and attend at least 70 percent of the classroom hours will receive a certificate of achievement with commensurate CEUs and recertification credits.
