Are you ready for your future to take flight? The Rice University Aerospace & Aviation Academy, Fueled by Envision, is an incredible opportunity to spend 12 days in one of the epicenters of aerospace and aviation. During the program, you will gain invaluable hands-on career experience and exposure while learning from and engaging with leading minds in the space industry, gaining unique access to industry facilities, and hearing directly from a NASA representative on 21st century space innovations. Students may choose to participate in the non-credit or credit version of this course.
Non-credit: Students interested in the non-credit version of this course will participate in a 12-day, residential, experiential learning opportunity.
Credit: This program has been approved by our faculty for college credit. Students attending the Rice University Aerospace & Aviation Academy are eligible to register for EDUC 101 Science Education and Career Exploration: Introduction to Aerospace and Aviation, which will award students one college credit through Rice University upon completion.
Please note: students interested in participating in the credit version of this course will be required to successfully complete additional academic assessments. There is an additional fee of $967 for the credit option as well.
The Aerospace & Aviation Academy
The Aerospace & Aviation Academy is an immersive program designed specifically for students who are interested in pursuing careers in fields of aerospace and aviation and who want to be at the forefront of the developments and demands of the future.
While staying on the campus of Rice University, you will enjoy daily forums from Rice's renowned faculty and receive unparalleled exposure to industry and government space scientists through exclusive site visits, which will also provide you with a glimpse into your future. You will also hear from a NASA representative and former NASA astronaut Dr. Leroy Chiao, who will share his personal stories and lessons from spaceflight and experience in technology companies.
During the program, you will visit the Lone Star Flight Museum, where you attend flight ground school, participate in a flight prep simulation, learn the importance of flight planning, and then apply what you have learned while operating a flight simulator.
EDUC 101 Science Education and Career Exploration: Introduction to Aerospace and Aviation

This is an immersion learning course that also includes online learning components and assessments. Students earning credit will be required to actively participate in pre and post Academy content and assessments. The online portion will begin 2 weeks prior to the campus class and end 2 weeks after. Course content is delivered online utilizing the Canvas learning management system as well as face-to-face during the Aerospace and Aviation Academy.
Grades for this course are Unsatisfactory (U) or Satisfactory (S) and will be based on attendance, effort, and productivity in the course along with the quality and timeliness of assignment submissions and/or presentations. Students enrolling in the credit portion of this course must successfully complete all online and face to face activities and assessments in order to receive a grade of satisfactory.
