Fall IB Workshops

The Fall IB workshops at Rice are designed for new and experienced IB teachers at the PYP, MYP, DP and CP levels who are interested in learning about the IB program and strategies and techniques for effectively teaching IB curriculum.

The Fall IB workshops at Rice are designed for new and experienced IB teachers at the PYP, MYP, DP and the CP levels who are interested in learning about the IB program and strategies and techniques for effectively teaching IB curriculum. Workshops are led by experienced IB workshop leaders who have a strong background in teaching and an interest in developing the IB teacher community through rigorous professional development.

Workshops will be Sunday to Tuesday on the Rice University campus. Classes on the first two days will be held from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and classes on the last day will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. Prior to registering, please review the IB Workshops and Resources catalog to determine which category best meets your needs. Additionally, certain information provided during registration will be sent to the IB Organization.

Participants

IMPORTANT: Please do not book travel or lodging until your campus/district has remitted payment, by check or credit card. We recommend adding travel insurance when purchasing your airline ticket to protect your purchase in the event of unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to:

  • Injury or illness of insured or family member
  • Cancellation of workshop due to low enrollment or instructor availability
  • Hospitalization of insured
  • Accidents

Continuing Education Credits: Participants will receive up to 15 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits or 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). Attendance is taken each morning and afternoon. The hours on your certificate will reflect your actual hours of attendance. Participants are responsible for signing the attendance sheet each day. SBEC Continuing Professional Education Provider Number 500571.

Note: The Rice University IB Workshops are not approved by TAGT for GT hours, but some districts will allow a limited number of hours to be applied for update hours. Please contact your district for specifics.

Acknowledgment of Enrollment: Once you register for a course through our online registration system, an enrollment acknowledgment will immediately be sent to the email address on file. If payment was provided in the form of credit card, your registration is confirmed and your receipt will be included in the “Payments Submitted” section below. If you registered with a purchase order, you will receive an email that includes an “Invoice/Payment Voucher”. Please print the voucher or forward the voucher to your district's accounts payable department and submit it with your payment via check. If paying by credit card, please login to your account to complete payment or you may contact our office at (713) 348-6031. No other invoice will be sent. Your registration is not confirmed until payment, by check or credit card, is received. If a course is full, you will have the option of adding your name to the waiting list. If a spot should become available, an automated email, with instructions for completing your registration, will be sent to the email address on file to each participant in the order they are listed on the waiting list.  

Early registration: $850 (until July 11)
Standard registration: $900 (July 12-September 26)
Late registration: $950 (after September 26)

Tuition includes breakfast each day and lunch on the first and second day.

Payments

Payments are accepted by credit card or purchase order. Registrations via credit card are confirmed immediately upon processing. Registrations made via PO are not considered confirmed until CCR receives the actual payment (check). If registering using a PO, payment (check) is due within 30 days of registration. Failure to submit timely payment may result in the cancellation of your registration.

Category 2 participants are required to bring their own subject guide to the workshops. A subject guide will be provided in hard copy for Category 1 participants. In combined Category 1 and 2 workshops, subject guides will be provided to all participants. Coordinators, please bring a copy of the "Handbook of Procedures." A few copies will be available to those that are unable to get one before the start of the workshops. These materials may be brought either as electronic files downloaded to laptops or as hard copies.
