Master of Liberal Studies
Tuition & Fees

Rice University is committed to keeping the costs of the Master of Liberal Studies program as low as possible. Incentives include significantly reduced tuition for all admitted students, financial aid and program tuition aid. Program cost reflects a significantly reduced rate from normal Rice University tuition, and is designed to accommodate part-time students.

Annual tuition increases should be expected. For more detailed information, see the academic Policies. Tuition and fees cover a campus ID from the campus police, a Rice e-mail account, Fondren Library privileges, access to the Rice Recreation Center and representation to the Rice University Graduate Student Association (GSA).

Financial Aid

Students in the Master of Liberal Studies program may be eligible to receive federal student loans, Grad PLUS loans and private loans. The enrollment requirement for eligibility is at least half-time or 4.5 hours. Visit for Rice University's Office of Financial Aid more information.

The MLS program offers limited scholarships to current students who demonstrate financial need. The program is actively seeking individuals or corporations who could underwrite a scholarship fund to help worthy students pursue their degree.

Refund of Tuition and Fees

All tuition refunds are subject to the refund schedule posted in the official Rice University academic calendar.
