Our Commitment to Texas Education
Rice University is committed to improving access for all future teachers interested in teaching in public schools in Houston and other metropolitan Texas areas. To do this, we’ve created an alternative certification program that costs significantly less than the traditional path of teacher certification. The tuition for this non-credit, alternative teacher certification program is $4,616. Other fees like books, exam fees, certificate fees, parking, etc. are not included in the tuition fees.

Tuition assistance is available for those interested in joining Rice University's Alternative Teacher Certification program. Please review the affordability options available below.
Teach for Houston Scholarships: Teach for Houston is a partnership between two nonprofits Good Reason Houston and Teach, and Houston-area school districts, universities, and educator preparation programs. Register with Teach for Houston before applying to the program at houston.teach.org.
Payment Plans: Payment plans are available through the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies' Education program for the non-credit programs.
Financial Aid: Contact the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies' Education team after admission to discuss additional financial aid options.
